Chronic Eye Disease

I chose to receive post-graduate training in this specialty because my dad has glaucoma which went terribly wrong (probably by being prescribed a medication which can make glaucoma worse!), and now he is legally blind.  It is a very tough thing to deal with when your dad is ninety and has had his sight his entire life and now becomes dependent on others for the smallest daily tasks. For this reason I have made it a goal, my passion, to help others with degenerative eye disease in my practice.  There is no reason to allow vision to deteriorate, or not to take preventative action to maintain it.  In most cases western medicine says there is nothing they can do.  My dad is not even a candidate for stem cell therapy, although this is where a cure holds promise.  In the case of glaucoma, doctors advocate continued use of drops to lower the pressure on the optic nerve, however, glaucoma is far from only an issue with the optic nerve. Rather it is an inflammatory issue involving the central nervous system as well as due to oxidative stress–the body’s inability to detoxify the harmful effects of free radicals.

I have helped patients with many chronic eye issues including but not limited to, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, blepharitis, keratoconus and retinitis pigmentosa. While each condition is different, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, supplements and eye exercises can help improve vision. Treatment of eye disease requires at least 1-2 treatments per week for optimal results.
